Google Buzz or Twitter?

Twitter is the next best thing since paneer butter masala. I agree. But there are limitations in twitter that we all tend to forget. I'll just try to explain how Buzz fares better than Twitter.

I Assume you are using twitter for more than a year. The possibilities are,

  • You stumbled on Twitter a year ago. Created an account with a handle that friends from your other soc.networks might recognize you.
  • After the customary 'Trying Twitter' , you went to the silent mode for a period ranging from 15 - 150 days only to be woken up by the buzz created around twitter.
  • After using the password reminder service, You resumed, searched for friends, friends of friends (FOF), started following and got followed.
  • Now you have a follower base of 500 which is a mix of close friends, FOFs, new acquaintances, celebs (rarely), family, and business contacts.
  • After some time, you realize that your tweeting frequency has taken a sharp dip or most of the time, you think twice before you tweet.

Wonder why?

By design , twitter allows you to have one account per mail id, so you decided to follow every one you know - family, friends & business contacts with you twitter a/c created with your primary mail id. Though there are applications that let you manage multiple twitter accounts, you realized thatits a cumbersome process. Hence, the items you tweet, the links you post, the videos you link and tone should appeal to this heterogenous mixture of your follower base.

A discount coupon that you offer to a select customers from your follower base makes no sense to your family Or A tweet on your personal crisis is the last thing a potential client wants to hear from you.

But there is no way you can decide on who ( or which set of your followers ) can see which of your tweet. But with google buzz, you can.

Benefits of Buzz over Twitter.

  • No application needs to be installed and is available in gmail window.
  • You instantly follow all of your gmail contacts, meaning which you are instantly followed by all your buzz enabled gmail contacts ( where as in twitter, you need to send an invite, persuade them to start an account if they dont have one and make them follow you)
  • Create separate groups of your followers in order to post messages selectively.
  • Because it is from google stable.
Buzz can do wonders for Small & Medium enterprises, a bus twitter had missed.
